While this is free, it does take a little work…
Let’s break it all down for you!
WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO:
You need to become a Public Patron in order to get a free ticket. Good news: It’s FREE! Sign up here.
In-Person ticket pickup: Ticket vouchers that can be exchanged for free tickets will be distributed at:
THE PUBLIC THEATRE: On each public performance date, a limited number of ticket vouchers for that night’s performance will be distributed via an in-person lottery. Sign-up for the lottery will begin in The Ford Foundation Lobby of The Public at 11AM. The lottery drawing will begin at 12pm. You can receive up to 2 vouchers upon winning, while supplies last. Each person will be limited to receiving 2 free tickets to a total of 2 performances for the Free Shakespeare in the Park season. You can then redeem the voucher(s) for ticket(s) between 5PM and 7:30PM at the Delacorte Theater Box Office. Vouchers are only redeemable until 7:30PM for performances on the day you win them, so don’t forget. In the case you don’t win 😔 There is an evening standby line formed at the Delacorte day of evening performances. Staff will begin to monitor the line at 6:00pm. Free standby tickets will be distributed if and when they become available, again 2 per person. Sadly, separate lines for ADA Accessible and Senior Accessible during standby aren’t possible due to limited availability and demand.
CENTRAL PARK: Free tickets are distributed at 12PM (noon) on each public performance day via the free lines at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. Not gonna lie, it’s a long wait cause a lot of people will be waiting for free tickets, but its worth it! Again, you can get 2 tickets to a total of 2 performances, while supplies last. There will be a separate line for ADA Accessibility ticket distribution and it will be handled on a continuous basis starting at 10am until all available accessible tickets run out. Seating is limited for Open Caption, Audio Described, and American Sign Language Interpreted performances so we recommend you get there early. To confirm accessible performance dates, please visit the Free Shakespeare in the Park accessibility calendars. Same deal as above for evening standby line tickets.
BOROUGH DISTRIBUTION: On select public performance dates, a limited number of vouchers for that night’s performance will be distributed through a variety of locations in New York’s five boroughs. Be sure to check the performance and borough calendar for when and where these tickets will be available to in your community. Ticket vouchers will be distributed beginning at 12pm until 2pm, or when all vouchers run out. People waiting for free ticket vouchers must line up along the paths designated by The Public Theater staff and the host venue. Public Theater staff will be at the borough distribution points at least 2 hours prior to the distribution time, incase you have any questions for them. Again, each person will be limited to receiving 2 free tickets to a total of 2 performances of each production during the Free Shakespeare in the Park season. You can then redeem the voucher(s) for ticket(s) between 5PM and 7:30PM at the Delacorte Theater Box Office. Vouchers are only redeemable until 7:30PM for performances on the day you get them. ADA accessibility seating is limited for those who have a mobility disability. For assistance, in acquiring accessible seating during the borough distributions, please speak find Public Theater staff upon your arrival. Same deal as above for evening standby line tickets. Sadly, separate lines for ADA Accessible and Senior Accessible during standby aren’t possible due to limited availability and demand.
