I’m a teenager and I’m passionate about football and I wish that I could go back in time to experience some historic NFL events. Well, I can’t do that, but I can do better—by seeing the play Lombardi . Lombardi is a play based on Vince Lombardi’s years as head coach of the Green Bay Packers. We learn about Lombardi’s love of football by watching as he supports and galvanizes the players in the locker room. We see the strong relationship that Lombardi has with his sarcastic wife, Marie. And we experience how his home and work life mix together. The Circle in the Square Theatre is a perfect fit for a play about football because the audience surrounds the action—I felt like I was at the football field. Dan Lauria is wonderful as Lombardi and makes us feel as if we’re on the team. Vince Lombardi is a good example for young people because he gave one hundred percent of himself in order to lead his team to victory. He shows that it’s important to believe in yourself and to follow your heart. The play Lombardi is a touchdown. Written by Eric Simonson.
