Faith @ ‘Come From Away’ - Everyone is so filled with fear over that day

What’s it about?

This musical takes viewers into the experience of the 7,000 airline passengers who ended up stranded in Newfoundland during the week of 9/11. People of different cultures, races and backgrounds clashed as tensions ran high due to the situation back in America. However, they learned that their prejudiced views of each other were not as accurate as they thought.

My experience.

To say that fall is here would be an understatement! But walking through the cold and crowded streets of Times Square ended up being worth it.

People of different cultures, races and backgrounds clashed as tensions ran high due to the situation back in America. However, they learned that their prejudiced views of each other were not as accurate as they thought, and they found some joy during that tumultuous time.

At first, I was quite confused about what was going on. They started singing right off the bat. Full musical number and all. It leads to the characters getting on the plane and winding up in an unexpected situation. I finally caught on with this being about 9/11 when the characters stopped and looked at a TV showing one of the planes hitting one of the Twin Towers.

Surprisingly, there were a lot of issues addressed about race, prejudice, fear and humanity. There was the discussion about how most Muslims nowadays are deemed dangerous and “suspicious” by society as a result of this terrorist attack. One of the men who was stranded was a Muslim and was disrespected by most, if not all, of the other passengers. Seeing the way he was treated made me feel hopeless. Everyone is so filled with fear over that day that they have aimed all this prejudice onto an entire culture.

This story is not a traditional jolly tale of survival, it’s about real people. People who lost loved ones but found a way to move forward. It’s incredible to see that such a horrible event brought together people who otherwise would have never faced their misjudgments.
